David Nosanchuk is an inspired American designer based in New York City. His early studies at the Cranbrook Academy, Michigan’s historic arts community, imbedded in Nosanchuk the methods and traditions of modern design that continue to inform his process.
Nosanchuk earned a degree in art history at University of Michigan, moving to Los Angeles shortly thereafter to pursue a Masters of Architecture at Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc.) In Los Angeles, Nosanchuk became a master woodworker, designing and constructing furniture, and eventually teaching furniture fabrication.
In 2000, Nosanchuk launched his first furniture and lighting collection at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair where his N1 table lamp received one of five Best in Show. In 2012, an iteration of the lamp was permanently installed on the Cranbrook campus, where Nosanchuk has been commissioned to design more unique decorative elements.
Within all of Nosanchuk’s work, is the mixing of history, technology and invention as seen with the “Super Series” collection of wallpapers, based on his own photographs of art and architecture in Rome and New York with Brooklyn based Flavor Paper. Introduced in the fall of 2013, the wallpapers have met with international praise and have been acquired for the permanent collections of the Cooper Hewitt, a Smithsonian Institution, in New York and Les Art Decoratifs, in Paris.
Nosanchuk’s other recent work has been exhibited at the Museum of the City of New York, The Museum of Arts and Design, and the Triennale di Milano where he was asked among the most influential designers in the world, to provide a unique pattern as a backdrop for the exposition.
