The Gramercy Loft was conceived as a full time Pier-De-Terre for a young business savvy couple. The main focus of the design was the living room, which is connected to the dining room, kitchen, and bedroom. All of these rooms were visually divided by a series of sofits and niches. This approach defined the spaces while providing effective places for built-ins, closets, drapery pockets, recessed lights, and speakers. The walls, ceilings, and soffits are painted in the same ivory colored eggshell, giving a sculptural quality and creating a warm, reflective interior. A range of colorful and rich materials were employed, such as solid and veneer quartered black walnut, wine colored laminate, stainless steel, and glass mosaic tiles. The interplay of materials, light, and color are carried through to the decorative elements. This element is evident in the various furnishings, such as the period Panton hanging light and the Jean Prouve recliner.
