Stockholm Library Competition

Stockholm Library Competition

The Stockholm Library serves as a terminal in the city. While the original Gunnar Asplund building was filled with printed, static media, the new addition is defined by the interaction of visitors, staff, and digital media. The proposed design speaks to Stockholm; bearing Sweden’s progressive culture, equality, and respect for its history.

The new library serves as an information way and place of reflection, containing media in the open spaces, as well as private study areas. Visitors can enter the plaza (Level 0) to study any time, day or night. They can traverse the Observatory Park through an open public elevator, or enjoy Café at Park level (Level 6). The new library becomes a center where people, nature, and history meet in a new way, revealing the past while connecting to the future.
